Just pictures, Islands of Samoa and Tonga

Elder Fata going into the guest house where they are holding the turnover ceremony for donated rain catchment tanks.  They handed us a lei as we entered.  Note the beautifully wrapped posts.

Film crew from TV Samoa 1; they showed this event on TV that night in Samoan language; if you looked very quickly, you could get glimpses of Jim and I; you had to be very quick though.

This is our meal cooking in the ground before digging it up again.

Yummy chicken in the ground along with rest of meats and other items needing cooking for our huge lunch meal.

Ana Ika and E/S Murdock when we first met a the luncheon at one of the many farming projects on the island.

The ladies that cooked us this grand meal.  (Relief Society).

Wile in Auckland they said they wanted us to check out this old well, drilled in the 30's or 40's.  We decided later it could not be saved, so they will cap it, put a plaque on it for posterity, and drill a new one.  This is on church property and they want to develop it into an area that the youth can use.

We saw lots of cattle in rural areas.  I thought this one was kind of cute.

Above and below: a typical engine that they use here to pump the water out of the borehole, up to tanks on stands, and distributed to other tanks on the ground for pick-up.  Some of the older ones are awfully greasy.  These are in better condition.  If they take care of them, they can last for 25 years.  The government sends a man to fix them for free but the community has to pay for parts.
