Pictures, snorkeling day

Our guide telling us all about the trees.  When you put your name on a tree, it belongs to you.  If this tree was straight, it could be used for a dugout canoe.  He told us of plants nearby and what they were good for, for medicine.

This is a hand dug well that was there for WWII.  It still gives clean water, but everyone lives on the other side of the island and don't come here to draw water.

Jim was sure this was just for show and that it was too heavy to scoot into the water.  He was wrong of course; our two men easily pushed it there and then gave one helped Jim paddle it around the bay while I rode.

This is a view of the left side of the bay where we spent the day .

We had a wonderful barbecue lunch--plenty of food, more than the 4 of us could eat  No one was on tour with us, just the 4 of us, kind of like a private tour.

E/S Leben in the kayak.  We took it out too.

The cute hut where we had our barbecue.

They say that this hand print was from their ancestors.  It was in a long cave where they gave us lights so we wouldn't trip on the uneven ground as we made our way deep inside.  At home there would have been handrails and 'be careful' signs so we wouldn't sue anyone if we tripped...so refreshing to just enjoy something like this.

As they motored around the island, we saw the most beautiful shades of ocean, from deep blue to this emerald green.  The deep area where we snorkeled in the protected coral, had a color all it's own.

After our great snorkeling adventure we ended up in the village where our guide lives.  There they were ready to sell us some of their homemade wares.  We only had the equivalent of $10, so we purchased a couple of key chains.

This is our guide and one of his little girls.  She was very unfriendly and a bit afraid when I took this picture.  When I showed it to her, she happily smiled for the next one.
